BYD introduces flash charging technology that charges the battery in 9 minutes

Chinese company BYD has introduced battery charging technology in minutes.

A major breakthrough has come to light for electric vehicle users. Chinese company BYD plans to install 300 modern flash charging stations in the UK over the next 12 months, where the battery of an electric vehicle can be charged from 10 to 97 percent in just 9 minutes through modern technology.

According to a report by Carscoops, BYD will introduce its first flash charging stations in the UK in the next few weeks. This system developed by the company is already being widely used in China and is now being introduced in the European market.

BYD’s flash charger has two connectors. When charging one vehicle, the charger can provide a maximum power of up to 1,500 kW, while when charging two vehicles simultaneously, each connector can provide up to 1,000 kW of power.

According to the company, this technology can charge the battery from 10 to 70 percent in just 5 minutes, while it will take only 9 minutes to charge from 10 to 97 percent. It is claimed that the charging speed is significantly maintained even in extremely cold weather, where it will take about 12 minutes to charge the battery from 20 to 97 percent in temperatures of minus 30 degrees Celsius.

BYD's new charging technology provides significantly more power than many existing fast charging networks. Tesla's V3 and V4 superchargers in the UK provide up to 250 kW of power, while the company's future V5 hardware is expected to reach 500 kW, in comparison, BYD's flash charger can provide up to 1,500 kW of power.

Behind this extraordinary speed, BYD's advanced battery technology and the energy storage system installed in the charging station play a key role. Each flash charging station is equipped with two storage batteries with a capacity of 185 kWh, which can be charged from the grid at a speed of up to 560 kWh, after which this stored energy is transferred to the vehicle battery at a very high speed.

BYD will install 300 flash charging stations in the UK over the next year. These stations will be prioritized at BYD and Denza dealerships, motorway service stations and existing charging hubs.

The first vehicle to support the technology will be the Denza Z9 GT, while BYD’s latest plug-in hybrid models will also offer super-fast DC charging with the new generation Blade Battery 2.0.

BYD says that owners of compatible vehicles will be offered preferential electricity rates across the UK that are significantly lower than the current retail prices for normal super-fast charging. Electric vehicles from other companies will also be able to charge at these stations, but their owners will be charged a relatively high charging fee.

According to experts, if this technology performs as well as the company claims in practice, the charging time will no longer be a major obstacle to the promotion of electric vehicles, and the demand for electric vehicles may increase further compared to traditional petrol and diesel vehicles.
