Technology giant Samsung is preparing to further expand its lineup of foldable smartphones. Following the initial success of the company’s new Galaxy Z Fold 8, there have been reports of an increase in production targets, while according to insiders, Samsung may introduce two more wide-screen foldable phones next year.
According to reports, if this plan comes to fruition, the Galaxy Z9 series will include a total of five devices, including the Galaxy Z Fold 9, Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra, Galaxy Z Flip 9 and the new Galaxy Z Tri-Fold.
This development also makes it clear that speculations that Samsung will end the Galaxy Z Flip series have not been proven correct. However, there are reports about the future of the low-cost Z Flip FE model that it could be discontinued.
The current Z Fold 8 is called a ‘wide foldable’ because when unfolded, its internal screen is wider than it is tall, and its aspect ratio is 4:3.
On the other hand, the internal screen of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is almost square, with an aspect ratio of about 9:10.
According to sources, Samsung’s new wide-screen foldable will be optimized specifically for watching videos. The current HDTV standard is 16:9, while movies and some TV shows also use wider cinematic ratios like 21:9.
