WhatsApp starts testing media preview feature on Android without opening chat

The popular messaging app WhatsApp has started testing a new feature for Android users, under which users will be able to see a glimpse of recent photos, videos and stickers without opening the chat.

According to WhatsApp Beta Info, the media preview feature has been introduced in the chat list in the Android beta version 2.26.32.11 of WhatsApp.

Currently, if the latest message of a conversation is a photo or video, WhatsApp only shows the photo or video label in the chat list. The user has to open the chat to know the nature or content of the media.

After the new feature, a small thumbnail preview will also be displayed along with the media label. If the latest message is a photo, a small preview of the photo will be visible along with the photo, while in the case of a video, its preview will be visible along with the video label.

This change will make it easier for users to guess what type of media has been shared in which conversation recently without opening the chat.

This feature is currently available to Android beta testers, but a final announcement regarding its availability to general users has not been made.
