Gianni Infantino to run for fourth term as FIFA president

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has maintained his decision to run for president again despite strong opposition. He will be a candidate for a fourth and final term as FIFA president.

A FIFA spokesman also confirmed Infantino's re-election. According to him, Infantino had announced his candidacy in April this year and there has been no change in this decision so far.

Infantino, 56, faced severe criticism over his plan to include private investment in FIFA events, the FIFA Forward Enterprise. The plan was later scrapped. European football's governing body UEFA also opposed Infantino on the issue, while CONCACAF and the Asian Football Confederation supported him.

CONCACAF President Victor Montagliani is being mentioned as a possible opponent for Infantino in the election. On the other hand, UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin has already made it clear that he will not run for the FIFA presidency.

Infantino is currently the only candidate to have officially declared his candidacy. He will need a simple majority of the 211 football federations affiliated with FIFA to be re-elected.

The deadline for submitting nominations for the presidential election is November 18. If successful, Infantino would remain in the position of FIFA president until 2031.
