Joe Root broke Sachin Tendulkar's record by completing 23,000 runs

England's experienced batter Joe Root achieved another major milestone during the first ODI against Sri Lanka. While batting at Chester-le-Street, Root completed 23,000 runs in his international career, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar to become the fastest player to reach this mark in terms of innings played.
Root accomplished this feat in 521 innings, whereas Sachin Tendulkar had required 522 innings to reach the 23,000-run milestone. Consequently, Root moved ahead of Tendulkar on the list of batters who have reached 23,000 runs the fastest.

Prior to Root, only seven batters had achieved this milestone. They include India's Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene, Australia's Ricky Ponting, South Africa's Jacques Kallis, and India's Rahul Dravid.
