Pakistan's foreign exchange reserves increase by $1.21 billion

Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves have recorded a significant increase in the past week, taking the country’s total reserves to $23.7158 billion. According to the State Bank, the main reason for the increase in reserves is the foreign commercial loans received by the Government of Pakistan.
Significant increase in central bank reserves
The State Bank’s reserves increased by $1.21 billion during the week ending September 4, 2026. After the increase, the foreign exchange reserves held by the central bank reached $18.3282 billion.
According to data released by the State Bank, the country’s total foreign exchange reserves also increased to $23.7158 billion during the same period.
What are the reserves of commercial banks?
The share of commercial banks in the country’s total reserves is also included. According to the data, commercial banks currently hold foreign exchange reserves worth $5.3876 billion.
On the other hand, the increase in the central bank’s reserves has been linked to the collection of commercial loans by the Government of Pakistan. The State Bank clarified that during the week under review, the government received foreign commercial loans, as a result of which an increase in government reserves was recorded.
