Robots protest in Warsaw, demand stricter laws on the growing impact of AI

An unusual scene unfolded in the Polish capital Warsaw as around 30 robots marched through the streets demanding stricter regulations for artificial intelligence and robotization. The main theme of the protest was the potential impact of robot technology and artificial intelligence on human jobs.

The demonstration took place in front of the Polish Ministry of Digital Affairs, where two-legged humanoid robots were accompanied by four-legged robot dogs. The robots held flags in their hands while protest slogans were broadcast over loudspeakers.

Demanding regulations to protect jobs

The protesters chanted slogans such as ‘Defend jobs’, ‘Time to make rules’ and ‘Don’t wait, make rules’. The unique protest highlighted the impact of artificial intelligence and robotization on employment.

The demonstration was organized by the initiative ‘Democratism’, which aims to advance the debate on the impact of artificial intelligence and robotization on the labor market.

The organization’s organizer, Gregorz Kolisch, said that the concern that humanoid robots and artificial intelligence could perform mental tasks as well as physical tasks in the future needs to be taken seriously. According to him, if this issue is not responded to now, a major problem may arise in the near future, which is why laws are necessary that play a role in protecting employees.

The AI ​​robot also spoke to journalists

During the protest, the humanoid robot Agibot A3, which is powered by artificial intelligence, also attracted attention, which answered questions from journalists. The robot said that the participation of machines in the protest is to show that robot technology is no longer just a concept of the future, but has become a reality.

According to the organizers, the purpose of making robots part of the protest was also to demonstrate their current capabilities in practice. They said that these machines can move on their own and are capable of performing tasks that were previously considered to be associated with humans.

However, an interesting aspect of the protest was that since the slogans were pre-recorded, the question remained whether the robots were really protesting or were just highlighting the protests of humans through technology.

Digital Affairs Minister Attends Protest

Polish Digital Affairs Minister Krzysztof Gajkowski also arrived at the protest site and met with organizers. He spoke about the potential risks associated with artificial intelligence, warning that if out-of-control AI models are added to human-like robots and these machines continue to improve their capabilities during work, serious consequences could emerge.

The minister’s presence at the protest further linked the issue to the discussion of monitoring artificial intelligence and creating regulations for it.

AI legislation also underway in Poland

Legislation is already underway in Poland regarding artificial intelligence. Last July, President Karol Nawrocki approved a law to implement the EU AI Act in the country.

The robot protest in Warsaw comes at a time when debates are ongoing about artificial intelligence, robotization, human jobs and technological surveillance. The highlight of the demonstration was that concerns about the future of human employment were expressed through a protest in which the robots themselves became the center of attention.
