Abhishek Sharma broke Rohit Sharma's record by scoring a century off 30 balls

Indian opener Abhishek Sharma played an explosive innings against Afghanistan in the third T20 match, completing a century off just 30 balls. Thanks to his aggressive batting, India posted a total of 221 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Abhishek Sharma scored 108 runs, an innings that included 9 fours and 11 sixes. He reached his half-century in just 16 balls and crossed the century milestone in another 14 balls.

Surpassed Rohit Sharma's Record

By scoring a century off 30 balls, Abhishek Sharma broke Rohit Sharma's record. Rohit had scored a T20 century off 35 balls against Sri Lanka in 2017.

With this performance, Abhishek Sharma has also become the batsman to score the fastest T20 century among ICC Full Member nations.

Record for Fastest T20 Century Still Stands

Although Abhishek Sharma has set a new record among Full Member nations, the overall record for the fastest T20 century still belongs to Sahil Chauhan. He scored a century off just 24 balls while representing Estonia against Cyprus in 2024.

This marks Abhishek Sharma's third century in T20 cricket. In comparison, Rohit Sharma has scored 5 T20 centuries, while Suryakumar Yadav has scored 4.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan's innings is currently underway as they chase the target of 222 runs. 

Prominent Position in T20 Rankings

Abhishek Sharma holds the second spot in the ICC T20 rankings, while Ishan Kishan occupies the top position.
