Pakistan and IMF hold talks on business facilitation and tax reforms

On the second day of talks between Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), discussions will focus on economic affairs, improving the business environment, and reforming the tax system.

According to sources, the IMF delegation will meet with members of the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce to discuss the country's economic situation and measures to facilitate business activities. Issues regarding the cost and supply of electricity for the business sector are also likely to be addressed during the meeting.

The tax system will be another key topic of the negotiations; the IMF delegation and relevant officials will discuss tax reforms as well as the facilities provided to taxpayers.

Economic Issues in Technical Talks

Sources indicate that the IMF mission will also participate in technical talks, covering various economic matters such as the current account deficit, the benchmark interest rate, and the exchange rate.

During the negotiations, the IMF delegation will also be briefed on the status of foreign direct investment in Pakistan.

Discussions on Eurobonds and Monetary Policy

Pakistani officials will update the IMF delegation on the successful issuance of Eurobonds and funds secured from external sources.

Additionally, the effective use of monetary policy to curb inflation will be part of the discussions, with various economic aspects related to this issue being deliberated.
