Jannat Mirza's fake AI video goes viral; Hina Parvez Butt has demanded action

The issue of digital privacy and the unauthorized use of faces has once again come under scrutiny following the circulation of an AI-generated fake video featuring Pakistani TikToker and actress Jannat Mirza. The video depicted Jannat Mirza alongside an unidentified individual, prompting a strong reaction from her.

In an Instagram story, Jannat Mirza stated that she found nothing humorous about the video. She remarked that creating such content by using an individual's face without their consent is deeply concerning, as the repercussions of such incidents extend far beyond the person immediately involved.

The TikToker noted that while her face is being exploited in this manner today, a similar situation could befall any other young woman in the future, potentially compromising her honor and dignity. She admitted that despite being active on social media, viewing the video left her feeling deeply unsettled.

Women who do not use social media can also be affected

Jannat Mirza also drew attention to women who do not use social media. She pointed out that photographs of such women could also be used without their knowledge, leaving them completely unaware of the misuse.

Hina Pervaiz Butt, a member of the Punjab Assembly, also responded to the issue. She acknowledged that while artificial intelligence has become a significant technology, it should not be misused to harm an individual's honor, dignity, or privacy.

Describing the unauthorized use of women's photographs and faces as alarming, Hina Pervaiz Butt called on the relevant authorities to take effective action against such incidents. She urged those affected not to dismiss such content as a trivial online matter but to report it through the proper channels. 

Important Guidance for Affected Individuals

According to Hina Parvez Butt, if someone encounters such an incident, they should save a screenshot or the original link of the fabricated content but must refrain from further disseminating it. She advises that the matter be reported to the relevant cybercrime authorities; additionally, affected women in Punjab can seek guidance from the Punjab Women Protection Authority.

The incident involving Jannat Mirza has once again highlighted the issue of how the unauthorized use of a person's identity or face via artificial intelligence to create misleading content can compromise digital privacy and online safety. This case has also brought the debate regarding consent and women's digital safety to the forefront.
