Shaheen Afridi will play domestic cricket, decision taken on PCB's instructions

National team fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has decided to return to domestic first-class cricket to regain a place in the Test squad. He will represent KRL in the President’s Trophy Grade One starting Saturday.

Shaheen’s participation in domestic cricket is being done on the instructions of the Pakistan Cricket Board. The left-arm pacer is trying to strengthen his claim to return to the national Test team by performing well in first-class cricket.

According to sources, Shaheen will not be paid any compensation by KRL for this participation.

Earlier, while announcing the national Test squad for the tour of West Indies and England, the selectors had also cited his non-participation in domestic first-class cricket as one of the reasons for not including Shaheen Afridi. However, at the same time, Babar Azam was made part of the squad, although he too has not been able to play a domestic four-day match for many years.

Shaheen has played 43 matches in his first-class career so far, in which he has taken 166 wickets. Now he wants to once again prove his form in red-ball cricket and pave the way for a return to the national Test team.
