Reports have emerged that Brazil's famous former star footballer Roberto Carlos has converted to Islam.
Turkish ruling party MP Ali Sahin has made this claim regarding an important leader of Brazil's Muslim community.
According to Ali Sahin, during a meeting with representatives of the Brazilian Muslim community in Sao Paulo, Sheikh Jihad Hamade told him that Roberto Carlos had been in contact with him for some time.
The former footballer reportedly came to meet him about four weeks ago where he converted to Islam after reciting the Kalima Shahadat.
The Turkish MP, mentioning the news on social media, congratulated Roberto Carlos and prayed for peace, health and prosperity for his family.
Representatives of various Islamic organizations in Brazil were also present on the occasion.
The 53-year-old Roberto Carlos is considered one of the greatest left-backs in football history. He spent most of his career at Real Madrid and joined Turkish club Fenerbahce in 2007. However, Roberto Carlos has not yet officially confirmed his conversion to Islam.
